Restaurants in Central London
We asked the Caprice girls for their favourite Central London restaurants. This is what they said:
77 Brewer Street Soho London W1F | 020 7734 2608 | www.mashsteak.co.uk
Calls itself a ‘modern American restaurant with a Danish twist’. That twist refers to one of several places where they procure their steak – others being from the good ol’ USA, Japan, Britain, Uruguay and Australia. If you love your steak, and the origin of the meat matters to you then this could be the place to pig out on a cow until you are as sick as a dog.
The restaurant itself is a former Soho theatre (the occasional stripper may burst in by accident) and it looks as if the owners have merged that look with an American 50s diner. You eat downstairs, in the basement, but it looks great. The steaks are amazing and said to be amongst the best in London.
Quite pricey – you’re maybe looking at £150 for two
5A Air Street, Piccadilly, London W1 | 020 7406 3980 | www.thehawksmoor.com
Seafood and steak house located just off Regent Street near Piccadilly Circus and pretty convenient if you are moving onto the theatre afterwards. Upmarket but casual, so you can leave your bow tie and monocle at home. Great cocktails, not overly pricey and perfect if you are in a central London hotel. The Queen goes there most Monday afternoons and can often be seen helping out in the kitchen. Hawksmoor management do break the rules for Her, and allow Her to smoke.
Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill,
15 Swallow Street, Mayfair, W1 | 020 7734 4756 | www.bentleys.org
Located on the pun inducing Swallow Street and invites an easy interplay to bring up swallowing with your date. “Hello darling. Here’s an oyster. Do you swallow?” While that is a poor way of impressing any of the Caprice girls, it does make for an amusing anecdote for you friends the next day. Dress up well as this place can be quite old school and some of the waiters have been working here for over 70 years.
This place will rip the very soul out of your wallet, so come fully loaded or just hit the oyster room, hope that the aphrodisiac myths are true, and leave. The food is fantastic, the girls here swear by it and it’s sure to make them love you even more, if only hour by hour.
